labor day weekend

Another great American holiday I can take advantage of but know little about.  It doesn't matter, it's just a day off.  Ahhhhh.  Ahhhhh.

Well, I know this much if it wasn't for the early unions that formed in the country we probably wouldn't have today off.  Or 40 hour work week.  Or child labor laws.  So thanks to so many who were born before me that sacrificed to make it better for all of us.  There was a time in this country where you could get killed for trying to stand up to the company.  It happened to more than one person.  There's an old story about a man who tried to form a union somewhere down south back in the late 1800's and was framed for a murder by the mining company he worked for.  He was sentenced to be hung.  Many beleived he died an innocent man.  To this day...it is said...that his ghost still haunts the old jail cell where he spent his final days.  Wooooooo......

So how sad is that?  Many have given their life for what we have now.  Most of us don't know or care.  Well stop eating that burger right now I say.  Give me that.  What's wrong with you?  You.....smack...should...slurp...be.....earp....ashamed of yourself.  So as a public service this Labor Day I'm going around and taking food away from those who don't appreciate those who've sacrificed.  Oh, don't worry I'll give it to the needy.  By the way, I'm needy.  Have a great Labor Day!!!!

no, i'm not going

By the 8th grade or so I hated having to go back to school.  School was no longer fun like it was in grade school.  In grade school you got longer recesses and had easier classes.  It was a breeze.  By middle school they were starting to squeeze you a bit more.  You had some recesses but it just wasn't cool any longer in 8th grade to be playing like the 5th and 6th graders.  Growing up was appearing to be a drag.

Why is that?  When I was four I watched my brother (who was a year older) get on the bus and go off to kindergarten.  I was so dissapointed.  I really wanted to go where he was going.  Funny how you want something that you don't have.  Well part of it too is that I was being programmed by mom.  "Next year will be your turn and you'll get to have fun learning all kinds of things too."  Waaaah, I want to go now..... oh how that changed to.......Waaaah, I don't want to go.......

Why do most of us go from wanting to go to not wanting to go?  Below is my metamorphisis:

At first it's new and it's fun.

Look, I'm making new friends.

Wow, I'm getting my very own desk!

I've got supplies and everything!!!

We get to take naps!!

We get to go outside and play!!

I get to ride the bus!!

They serve lunch in school!!

now fast forward a few years:

Some people think I'm a dork.

Some of the kids are bullys or jerks.

There's pressure to fit in.

I have to study for tests.

I have to do homework.

I get to ride the bus.

They serve us lunch!

shocking survey

I read a survey from some dating website I never heard before regarding what some younger women would be willing to do.  For example:

54% said they would be willing to release an intimate tape if it meant they could succeed in their carreer(Huh?  Are you nuts?  Are people just getting dumber and dumber or is it me?)  Still guys are not much better, 46% said they'd be willing to do the same.  (Are people that narcissistic?  Isn't great to live in the age of "Look at me, I'm crying for attention, I have no self respect.")

36% said they would be willing to blackmail a boss or co worker if it meant they could get ahead.

(Are you kidding?  Didn't we just have a trial in Marquette involving John Stamos?  How did that turn out?)

Did you hear about the 20 year old female juror that posted her verdict on Facebook and said she was looking forward to telling the suspect he was guilty and watching his family's reaction.  How cruel is that?  Are you that insensitive and stupid to think no one is going to read your comments.  Furthermore, why would you post those kind of comments to begin with?  Oh....wait, for attention.  And why do so many need attention?  I always felt the reason we seek out attention is because we lack self love.

I've come to the conclusion, people are getting dumber and dumber.  Why?  They're being influenced by some real geniuses like Spencer and Heidi, or the Kardashians, or those brilliant ones from Jersey Shore.  And it seems just because someone's on tv they are an instant celebrity and there are those that worship them and want to be like them.  Now, is it media's fault or the fault of the person watching the media?  I say both.  Media plays us, it manipulates us, it lies to us.  Then it tries to pass on it's responsibility for the crap it puts out.

I believe all things influence us conciously and subconciously.  One, it's your choice what you plug into, but two, doesn't the media have some responsibility too?  I think they do.  Maybe I'm just dumb.....

The media is like a little brat, it keeps trying to get away with more and more.  It uses shock to negativity to make you watch/enslave you.  Do you want to be enslaved?  Or do you want to be a free thinker?

i love fridays

Especially when the weather is nice.  And my team won last night.  And I don't have a ton of work to do today.  And I slack off a bit.  And I may fake an illness to leave even earlier.  Ahhh.  Perfect, just flippin perfect.

Tonight 8-12 at the Terrace is Blues For a Cause $12 at the door.  Jim Lumpkin performs.  Maybe I'll go to that.

 Anyway, have a great weekend.
