| Jen Page's Blog | | Posted 7/1/2010 8:58 AM | Very Cool Contest Alert! You can win a $1000 Starbucks gift card. If you can't use it yourself, you can always donate it to your favorite Magic air personality (especially if that person happens to be moi).
Help devise a plan to reduce coffee cup waste! The environmental cost of the paper cup is H U G E! Twenty million trees as 12 billion gallons of water are used to make paper cups every year. Fifty-eight billion of those cups are thrown away (not recycled). If they WERE recycled, the energy employed could power 53-thousand homes!

| | Posted 6/21/2010 4:41 AM | It's sad it's gone on for so long, but we're already on day 63 of the Gulf oil spill. Tonight there's a fundraiser on CNN from 7 til 9 if you want to donate to the cleanup efforts. The proceeds will benefit three different charities that are helping animals and taking care of natural habitats along the affected region. Larry King is hosting the telethon, and there are supposed to be some big name stars showing up for the benefit.
I've seen on Facebook where a lot of people are changing their status to ask, "Where's the Gulf benefit?" Well here it is. Please put your money where your mouth is. If you have ever changed your Facebook status to ask for the benefit, please do your part tonight. I'm not judging, but I have seen a lot of people post comments about it. I've heard a lot of complaints from people wanting to know what is taking so long to ask for donations. There actually have been benefits, but none have been widely publicized, unfortunately. I wanted to know the same thing, so I googled it and found some places online. If in doubt, you can always call the United Way or American Red Cross to ask where to send monetary donations.
And while I'm thinking of it, you don't have to wait for a disaster to donate. You can always give money to worthy organizations. You can always roll up your sleeve and donate blood. You can always clean out your closets and give to the Goodwill. There are organizations every day that need our help. Let's not forget about those while we focus on the Gulf.

I'm a bit slow at catching movies, I admit, but this is one I wouldn't mind seeing while it's still in the theaters. I loved the original and am pretty excited to see Will Smith's son in this role. It appears as though some of the greats are coming back for a second chance. The A Team, though I wouldn't consider it one of my personal favorites, is also getting a second chance. And just yesterday I saw a trailer for THE SMURFS! Yes, the Smurfs are coming back - and they're in 3D on the big screen! You can catch the first movie trailer here: http://www.eonline.com/uberblog/b186287_neil_patrick_harris_unveils_brand-new.html

| | Posted 5/27/2010 10:10 PM | Missing Lost?
I have friends who are just nuts over the TV show, "Lost." I can honestly say I've never seen one episode of the show. Ever. (Or "24.") I'm more of a crime fanatic. I love CSI and Law & Order: SVU. I loved Numb3rs while that was still on the air.
Anyway, I was mentioning on the air that there's a video of some cats doing a short recap of the entire six seasons of "Lost." I forwarded it to some friends and they told me it's actually really good. I don't know what any of it means, but if you're a fan of the show, you will: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G-DShnvNNv0
One more thing, actor Michael Emerson has hinted the show may not actually be over. (Gasp!) No, it's not coming back to TV, but he told E! that fans who invest in the sixth season on DVD will get to see a revealing epilogue. The footage shows Linus & Jorge Garcia's Hurley protecting the island. Whatever that means. I imagine if you're a fan of the show, you'll understand.
Now, allow me to recommend "Chuck" as a replacement. Best. Show. Ever. (It really would help if you could go back and start watching from Season One though.)

| | Posted 5/25/2010 8:26 PM | Earlier this week you heard me talking about a new product called Le Whif. Crazy name, I know. But it looks pretty cool! It's basically just a whif of chocolate or a whif of coffee. I can see the diet market going nuts over something like this. Me? I'd love to break my coffee habit, so maybe this is the answer. I ordered it from the only place I could find online, a store in the UK. I'll let you know what I think after I've tried it. Or, if you're adventurous, order some yourself here: http://www.laboshop.fr/lewhif.html

| | Posted 5/14/2010 7:21 AM | Recycle Links I mentioned on the air:
Freecycle is a cool website where you can offer to give your things away to people who may be able to use them instead of throwing them away. Find the one closest to you at http://www.freecycle.org.
Paperback Swap is a community of readers who trades used paperbacks with others. Instead of letting the book collect dust on your shelf, why not trade it for one you've been dying to read? Check out http://www.paperbackswap.com.
Reuse-A-Shoe accepts old tennis shoes. I mean, don't send along the nasty ones your son wore out on the track at school, but if your kids feet just grow too fast and you've got perfectly good shoes sitting around, contact them here: http://www.nikereuseashoe.com.
Eyeglasses for the Needy accepts your used eyeglasses and donates them to those in need. Find out more here: http://www.neweyesfortheneedy.org.
Operation Fairy Dust is a great place to turn to when you've got an old prom dress taking up room in your closet. Go here: http://www.operationfairydust.org.
Call 2 Recycle takes your old rechargeable batteries off your hands and disposes of them properly. Go here: http://www.call2recycle.org.

| | Posted 5/5/2010 6:52 AM | As it turns out, Lady Gaga wasn't supposed to record Telephone. It was originally intended for Britney Spears. Apparently it was on Britney's "Circus" album, but the record company decided there were too many songs and cut that one. What a shame! The song's a huge success for Lady Gaga (and Beyonce).
If you haven't heard the demo of Britney singing it (keep in mind this is just a demo, not a final mix), it's here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CRfkYdUQ8y8
