CURSES, FOILED AGAIN!
Brad Erickson was real close to winning the 1600 Buggy championship in Crandon over the weekend. Saturday he finished third and his racing rival Mark Steinhart took a first. Despite all kinds of problems, including loss of power, Brad was still able to climb back into 3rd on Saturday and went into Sunday's final race leading Steiny by one point. One measly point. All he had to was finish ahead of him. Brad and his crew worked late into Saturday night trying to correct an engine problem that was causing him to lose power. Come Sunday they think they had it figured out. Steiny took the whole shot and grabbed the lead. Brad came back and passed Steiny, it was going to be a fight to the finish. Then something almost unheard of happened. A bolt or rock got kicked up and sheared off another bolt on Brad's car. The odd's of this happening to someone are astronomical. Brad's car started leaking oil and it was all over. It was just a matter of time before the engine seized up. In the end it cost him his first points championship and a new engine, which runs about $5000. In the end it just wasn't meant to be. He was so close and yet Steinhart pulled out another championship, something like 11 of the last 12 years. Unbelievable. Sometimes you wonder if some people are lucky or if it's fate.
Still congrats to Brad and his crew for finishing second and having a solid season.
